Bridging the Digital Health Literacy Gap in Older Adult Populations Through a Service Design Approach
摘要
There is a gap in digital health literacy regarding older adults and their aging-in-place healthcare needs. Therefore, understanding their needs to live a healthy life by leveraging technology becomes necessary to bridge the technology literacy gap and, consequently, provide a more equitable future for this population. This article details the digital health literacy gap, its implications, and the service design strategies employed in a pilot service called “Never Alone,” a comprehensive telehealth ecosystem that supports seniors’ desire to age in place. Through a five-phase strategy that includes contextual interviews, usability testing, diary studies, co-creation workshops, and continuous iteration, the program effectively engaged seniors, overcoming initial hesitations and integrating the service into their daily lives. The project’s success, marked by improved digital literacy and broader service adoption, underscores the importance of tailored communication, interactive learning, and co-creation in crafting user-centric digital solutions. This research contributes to the wider discourse on digital health services for aging populations, underscoring the need for accessible, user-friendly technology solutions that respect and respond to older adults’ diverse capabilities and preferences.
