Innovations in Older Adult Simulated Participant Methodology
摘要
While simulation itself may be considered an innovative way to practice skills, use of technology can further enhance innovation. Implementing augmented, virtual and mixed realities as well as embedding interactive reflective videos may be beneficial in situations where sensitive or potentially dangerous situations are being addressed. Learners have the opportunity to experience and practice responding to situations they may not otherwise encounter in unique ways that are designed to foster psychological and physical safety. This approach is especially relevant, for example, when training de-escalation of behaviours seen in people living with dementia that could be dangerous for older adult SPs or learners to practice in person. Collaboration and partnership are invaluable when being innovative; each person/group can bring their specialized knowledge to the table. When selecting new simulation methods and technologies, careful attention must be paid to aligning the learning objectives with the capabilities and strengths of the methods.
