Esophageal Tumors
摘要
Esophageal cancer, primarily comprising squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma, presents a significant global health burden with notable geographic and demographic variations. Risk factors such as tobacco use, alcohol consumption, chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease, and dietary habits play pivotal roles in its etiology. The disease often manifests as progressive dysphagia and weight loss, with diagnosis typically confirmed by endoscopy and biopsy. Management strategies are dictated by the cancer’s stage, with options ranging from endoscopic resection for early-stage tumors to esophagectomy and chemoradiotherapy for more advanced cases. Despite advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, the prognosis remains poor, emphasizing the importance of early detection and a multidisciplinary approach to treatment. This chapter delves into the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and management of esophageal tumors, highlighting the challenges and considerations in optimizing patient outcomes.
