Digital Tools and Techniques in Qualitative Research: Digital Skills and Research Optimisation

CAQDAS provides robust data organisation and analysis tools, while AI automates transcription and coding tasks, thrusting forth unprecedented efficiency. This has enabled researchers to tackle larger volumes of data and more readily identify intricate patterns, sharpening both speed and scholarly insight. Parallel to these advancements, videoconferencing tools broaden the qualitative reach, breaking geographical constraints and fostering global inclusivity in participant recruitment. Digital technologies afford richer data variety, contextual scope, empathy towards participant narratives, and interpretive depth. These gains, however, sprout ethical challenges that must be maneuvered with diligence and foresight. Tasks include assuring responsible data handling, sustaining participant anonymity, and securing informed consent adapted for digital mediums. As the volume and quality of data gained ascend, maintained integrity and interpretative authenticity of results are pressing for qualitative rigour. This chapter evaluates the nexus of digital transformations with the longstanding richness of qualitative research.
