Introduction to International Trade and Development in Africa
摘要
The exchange of goods and services has been at the core of the economic life of man since the dawn of time. Trade and economic development have always been intertwined. Even though the pace of globalization and the momentum of international trade have slowed, it is inconceivable that trade between countries will be severed soon. The new phase of global trade provides both opportunities and threats for Africa. Africa must put its house to harness the full benefits of international trade. Countries on the continent must ensure that the support systems, from finance to rules and regulations through to network infrastructure, are all in place. This will allow the continent to leverage the provisions of the AfCFTA agreement to enhance trade and development. The present volume on trade and development discusses many aspects of trade and development as well as the support services that support trade and development. The authors also offer policy suggestions as part of the discussion.
