Construction Embodied Water Concept: An Assessment Case for a Conventional Indian Residence

This exploration quantifies embodied water (EW) for an Indian residence in Jammu. Study adopts the ISO 14046 life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology using hybrid methods. The mixed research design uses life cycle inventory (LCI), field measurements, and scientific literature and performs system loop analysis to underline the outcomes. Mitigating excess EW, quantification, and EW criticality are the main targets. Total EW (EWT) assessed as 16980.37 KL, equivalent to 69 years of direct operational water for the family. Materials EW (EWMat.), direct water (DW), and in-direct water (IDW) contribute 55%, 8%, and 37% in EWT. EWT corresponds to 43.40 KL/m2, however outlines the materials choice in EW management. Higher IDW proportion calls for managing the on-site operations and humans, although 3.35 KL/m2 DW deserves focus too, understanding the constructions anticipated. The holistic sustainability concept stands incomplete without EW, while EW conservation strategies largely owe to the design-decision team.
