Integrated Water Resource Management

Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) is primarily a procedure that motivates the synchronized utilization and administration of land, water, and in addition to relevant resources in a manner that maximizes social and economic well-being in the absence of compromising the reliability of vital ecosystems. In the early 1930s, it was oriented as an integrated concept of water resource management to achieve the best possible water management for society, setting an approach of “One Water” for all. Today, with the global population increasing dramatically, this is one of the most critical responsibilities of developing countries to manage the basic need for water with a sustainable approach. When we talk about a sustainable approach, it mainly concerns the management of water resources for all human beings but must also include other living creatures in that environment and for future generations. If we can concentrate on the natural water cycle system, water resources are managed in a way where excess water is evaporated to form clouds, and these clouds then precipitate water in a manner that fulfills the needs of every living creature on the planet. This model should be the ideal foundation for an integrated water resource management plan. This section offers an informative and comprehensive overview of various points in affiliation with IWRM, various approaches to deal with this management plan, and their applications. It also presents a simplified model that examines and emphasizes the importance of water in sustaining ecosystems with a sustainable approach. Additionally, this chapter includes some case studies from different parts of the globe to justify the need for IWRM and to promote better management plans.
