Intelligent Transport Systems and Efficiency of the Transport Process in Urban Agglomerations

Currently, there is an increase in traffic congestion in most countries of the world, for this reason, transport authorities are faced with numerous challenges in providing mobility and safety. In this regard, the development of information and automated systems in transport is the most relevant. For these purposes, it is necessary to implement intelligent transport systems capable of managing traffic, informing motorists and preventing road accidents. The success of the implementation of such systems largely depends on the level of technical readiness of regions and countries, contribution to solving international transport problems and the availability of financial resources aimed at improving the efficiency of the transport process. This contribution investigates the role, goals and objectives of the intelligent transport system, and develops a process diagram for optimizing the conditions of traffic flows on the roads of the urban agglomeration to increase their capacity and safety. The process of monitoring, diagnosing and data management to improve the efficiency of the transport process in urban agglomerations is also presented.
