Issue on Necessity for Russian Manufacturing Enterprises’ Modernization Using Digital Technologies

The issue of depreciation of fixed assets of manufacturing enterprises is acute in the Russian Federation. In the conditions of the fourth industrial revolution it is necessary to renew them on an innovative basis, with the use of digital technologies, which allow to reduce transaction costs, the influence of the human factor on a number of processes, with a higher speed to bring products to the market, etc. Today, a number of enterprises in the manufacturing industry of the Russian Federation use digital technologies. However, the percentage of such companies out of their total number is small. The key obstacles to the total interest of enterprise owners in the introduction of digital technologies are the uncertainty in which countries and enterprises currently exist and the risks it generates, the high costs of digital technology implementation projects, the long payback period, the fear of the unknown, and the inexpediency of increasing the level of social tension in the country in modern conditions. In order for the owners of Russian manufacturing enterprises to show greater interest in modernization using digital technologies, the Strategy of digital transformation of production industries to achieve their «digital maturity» was adopted at the state level, and a number of measures of financial and non-financial support for projects aimed at incorporating digital technologies into the activities of these enterprises have also been developed.
