Low Radix
摘要
Low radix is a more neglected diagnosis than high radix. However, detection of this pathology will have a great impact on maneuvers to other subunits of the nose, especially in men. In lower-positioned radix cases, tip-radix distance is short, resulting in a short nose, and the hump looks bigger than its actual size. Low radix also gives the face an angry expression (angry face syndrome). If hump reduction is done without considering low radix, this will cause less projected dorsum and over-projected tip, hence nose-face disproportion. In cases with a wide nasal tip, recognizing the low radix is significantly important. Because if the reference radix point is taken low, despite narrowing the nasal tip, it will still appear wide, which results in low patient satisfaction. The surgeon therefore must diagnose low radix well. Providing ideally positioned radix is crucial for aesthetically natural-looking noses. Low radix treatment is easier than high radix. In this chapter we will discuss treating low radix with filling materials like cartilage or fascia. For patients who don’t seek surgery, liquid filling is an alternative treatment, where the author finds useful in solely low radix patients.
