High Radix

摘要

As mentioned before, the radix is the starting point of the nose. An ideally localized radix will therefore directly affect success in surgery, especially in women. High radix makes the nose appear longer and rougher than anatomically right radix. Patients with high radix generally complain that their nose seems connected to their forehead, where the author characterizes as resembling the noses from the Avatar movie. If high radix is left untreated, hump reduction would be relatively low, which makes dorsum and tip appear higher. For this reason, preoperative examination of radix position and projection should be analyzed well, and malpositioned radix should be treated by osteotome and saw intraoperatively. Treatment of high radix will result in more natural noses and will improve patient satisfaction. Although the radix may be perfectly adjusted in terms of projection and position, soft tissues (skin, subcutaneous tissue, and muscle) may limit our ability to achieve the desired result. The possibility that an ideal nasal radix will not be created should thus be discussed with the patient prior to surgery.
