摘要

This chapter explores the critical domain of assessing physical activity (PA) in the dynamic context of children and adolescents. Understanding and accurately measuring PA are paramount, as is comprehensive knowledge of assessment methodologies, ranging from report-based methods to device-based methods such as accelerometers and emerging technologies. The discussion navigates through the description and challenges associated with each method, considering their strengths, weaknesses, and analytical approach in different contexts. Moreover, the chapter explores the intersectionality of PA assessment with psychosocial and environmental determinants, shedding light on the multifaceted nature of behavior in this demographic. In addition to the technical aspects, the chapter also addresses the implications and practical aspects of accurate and reliable PA assessment for surveillance and child health. In synthesizing the latest research findings, this chapter not only provides an overview of existing assessment tools but also examines their validity and reliability. Finally, the chapter highlights the practical implications and future directions of PA assessment in children and adolescents. By doing so, this study contributes to the ongoing dialog among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers seeking effective strategies to promote PA and improve the overall health and well-being of children and adolescents.
