Mission Impossible: The Role of Sociology When There Is No Society

In this paper, I analyse the specific status of sociology, its constructivist character and its implications and consequences in relation to the specific post-socialist construction of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The central thesis of the paper is that sociology in some universal sense (conceptually, methodologically, and empirically) loses its power (it is questionable whether it ever had it) if it is viewed as a science of social ontology and that its epistemic constructions and potentialities in the sense of sociopolitical and sociocultural transformations stand in a causal relationship with sociopolitical particularities (social variables). The status of sociology within Bosnia and Herzegovina as one type of particularity reveals polyvalent conceptual fragmentations and exclusions, while at the level of material implications, it not has only this fragmentary character but also an ephemeral one in the context of some possible active, practical decision-making that can indirectly influence to the positive sociopolitical transformations of this country.
