Knowledge Management in the Context of the Global South: the Case of Chile

Like almost all Latin American countries, Chile has had a slow development in the field of knowledge management, both in the private and public sectors, as well as in universities. In recent years, several organisations of different sizes and economic and productive sectors have begun to develop knowledge management initiatives, motivated by a wide range of information and knowledge-related issues. The aim of this research is to analyse twenty-four cases of organisations that have carried out KM initiatives from 2010 onwards, seeking to identify common elements in their development, implementation process, tools used, barriers faced, teams and units that led these projects and the perceived results. The findings of this study reveal a very peculiar social and cultural context for knowledge management in Chilean organisations.
