Research Opportunities on Knowledge Management and Artificial Intelligence

This chapter examines the intersections and research opportunities between knowledge management (KM) and artificial intelligence (AI). It explores the impact of AI tools on KM processes, such as knowledge creation, storage, sharing, protection, and application. Additionally, key areas for future research have been identified. These include developing governance frameworks for the ethical and responsible AI use in KM, AI's integration with KM competencies and processes, AI models for innovation and ideation, ethical considerations and societal implications, and understanding the management of tacit and explicit knowledge with AI. The chapter provides examples of AI applications in several fields, including legal information extraction, multimedia content localisation, project management, product development, and decision support. This chapter concludes by presenting the potential of AI to improve knowledge management practices while addressing associated challenges through proactive research.
