Exploratory Analysis of Driver Data on University Campus: A Case Study in Ecuador

This study investigates the driving behavior of individuals entering a university campus, examining factors such as speed compliance, distractions, seat belt usage, yielding to pedestrians, and carsharing. Conducted in the Loja province, Ecuador, the study provides insights into driver patterns across weekdays, daytime periods, and gender differences. The data, collected through camera footage and specific markers on the pavement, offers a detailed understanding of road safety dynamics on campus. Differences were found between weekdays and periods of the day, as well as between male and female drivers. The findings not only contribute valuable information for campus administration to optimize safety measures but also align with established guidelines for road safety interventions, emphasizing education, control, and potential infrastructure modifications. Furthermore, individualized assessments for drivers allow for targeted interventions and promote awareness of personal driving habits. The study acknowledges challenges in automating data collection but underscores its potential benefits. In essence, this research not only enhances road safety on campus but also addresses key issues in data collection and analysis automation.
