摘要

The skin is the largest external organ of the body, present on the interface between body organs and the environment and acting as a protective barrier. The skin is exposed to various physical, chemical, and biological challenges. As a natural commensal microbial niche, the skin is inhabited by a complex microbiome which under normal conditions confer protective role. Microbial and dietary modulation of the gut-skin axis offers supportive therapeutic interventions to boost skin health and prevent skin diseases. As a microbial therapy, probiotics may ameliorate or prevent skin diseases such as eczema, atopic dermatitis, acne, urticaria, and allergic inflammation, as well as radiation-induced damage. Skincare products containing probiotics, prebiotics, and postbiotics are commercially available.
