Omics Technologies in Drug Discovery and Therapeutics
摘要
Omics technologies are valuable tools and integral components of recent biomedical and life sciences. Efficient state-of-the-art sequencing technologies generate high-throughput data and make it available for analysis. Bioinformatics, system, and computational biology tools have been developed to collect, store, retrieve, and decode the genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomics database to identify genes, proteins, and metabolic pathways as targets to evolve therapeutics. Omics methods have discovered novel antibiotics that target processes and enzymes, viz., histidine kinases (HKs), LpxC, peptide deformylase, and aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases, which are vital to microbial survival and proliferation. In addition, hypothetical proteins and metabolic pathways identified from omics data form a basis to validate them by laboratory methods, which saves time, budget, and resources needed for wet lab methods.
