摘要

Living beings including large aquatic as well as terrestrial animals, plants, and microorganisms synthesize antagonistic compounds to inhibit competing organisms. The antagonistic substances provide benefit to producer organisms to survive better among competitors. Ribosomally synthesized bacteriocins, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), and non-ribosomal antimicrobial peptides (NRAMPs) are functionally and ecologically diverse biomolecules with protective support to their producers. AMPs are regarded as potential therapeutic candidates with antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties and are in demand in biomedical, veterinary, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
