摘要

There exists an interdependent relationship between humans and the microorganisms. The human-microbiome co-evolution exerts gainful effects from one generation to another via maternal microbiome and the associated immune responses. Microorganisms and microbial metabolites, viz., lactic acid, short-chain fatty acids, bacteriocins, and antimicrobial peptides, should be utilized for health and well-being. Bacteriocins and AMPs are futuristic candidates to curb multidrug-resistant infections. Bacteria colonizing mucosal sites are of particular interest due to their capacity to resist infections and immunomodulatory activities.
