Gut-Brain Axis: Probiotics as Psychobiotics
摘要
Intestinal microbiota and the brain axis affect each other and the functioning of the whole body. The brain continuously receives signals from intestinal microbiota and immune system. Gut dysbiosis aggravates patients’ health and may cause persistent hurtful effects. Probiotics serve to increase functional camaraderie of normal gut microorganisms and confer multiple behavioral and cognitive health benefits. Diverting gut microbes to produce brain-activating metabolites can lower the severity of age-related emotional, cognitive, and neurological problems. Dietary modifications, active health style, and the targeted strategies may perform as novel therapies to avert cognitive disorders and improve behavioral, physical, mental, and systemic health.
