Experiences of High School Students and Engineering Student Recruitment

This chapter explores a complementary factor to retention in terms of developing a diverse group of engineers—recruitment of engineering students into the undergraduate university curriculum. This chapter evaluates current research, focusing mainly on Canadian literature that is available and published through peer-reviewed sourcing. This review is then followed by a comprehensive overview and subsequent analysis of STEM-related activities aimed at high school students who are predominantly motivated by the recruitment of women.
