Individual Health Data Storage for Diagnosis and Decision Support Systems—Considerations on Colonoscopy Assessment

The chapter presents a quick overview of the issues that come up throughout the diagnosis and decision-making processes in medicine, when complex information and large data sets are involved. Information is crucial for optimal diagnosis and timely decisions, thus, when arriving to the physician, it would be ideal that the medical history and the recent analysis should accompany the patient. Even if there are many attempts of storage of the medical individual history, mainly initiated by health insurance companies, supported by medical devices producers, or through governmental regulations, this problem is far from being globally solved, in a way prone to interoperability. Good decisions need complete information. We will tackle with diverse aspects and possibilities of individual health information storage, in order to step further to the embedded medical decision support systems. In the last decade our research team developed automatic procedures of assisting video colonoscopy examinations. Abnormalities detection, image classification and automatic semantic segmentation were addressed using deep learning networks. These procedures might be useful in e-learning, for the correctitude evaluations of the colonoscopy examinations, and further might stand for the basis of future colonoscopy diagnosis and decision support systems timely providing high quality information.
