Improvements in ablationAblation profile and optical zone design have significantly improved refractive stability and postoperative quality of vision, while the introduction of femtosecond lasersFemtosecond laser has improved the safety of flapFlap creation and enabled thin-flapFlap LASIKLASIK. In this chapter, we describe in detail the surgical protocol for performing a femtosecond LASIKLASIK procedure, with a particular focus on how to lift and replace a flapFlap to minimize the formation of microfolds, or even nanofolds. Careful flapFlap management enables optimal quality of vision for the patient and reduces the risk of epithelial ingrowth.
