Biosafety

The purpose of this chapter is to provide basic but also practical information currently no available on biosafety’s books. To this end, the issue has been split into 23 questions and their corresponding answers, with the basic aim of providing all the details and aspects of biosafety applied in the daily work of public and private centers and institutions handling laboratory (or farm) animals, where experts and professionals in the field carry out their work. This feature allows to establish a virtual dialogue and complicity between the authors themselves, who try to reach some consensus in their replies and, hopefully, the readers. The aim of the chapter was never to present itself as a treatise on biosafety, but simply to discuss relevant issues, as considered by the authors: culture of biosafety, staff training and education, accident management, quality in biosafety, user’s needs, supplies, animal welfare, waste disposal, and more. The final aim? To achieve, together, the maximum control of all the elements involved in biosafety.
