Seismic Protection of Buildings by the Application of the Seismic Isolation Devices

This scientific article is devoted to the protection of multi-story (6–24) residential buildings from seismic effects by the kinematic belt seismic protection devices. The life-size test samples of the devise were made, relevant field tests conducted, and efficiency of application was evaluated by the determination of the earthquake load reduction coefficient. A relevant patent (invention) for the kinematic belt seismic protection device was obtained, the operation principles during an earthquake were determined. The application of the kinematic belt seismic protection device in the construction located in the high-intensity earthquake risks areas allows to increase the earthquake resistance of buildings by 1–2 points, and to reduce the earthquake load, transmitted to the surface of the device by 2–4 times during an earthquake event. In order to enabling wide application of the kinematic belt seismic protection devices in high-rise monolithic reinforced concrete frame buildings, located in the high-intensity earthquake areas, it is advisable to construct an experimental residential building and conduct natural tests to check the building strength against anticipated earthquakes by artificially created earthquake loads and reliability of the seismic protection devices.
