Discussing Key Aspects of Industry 5.0 in Teaching Factories: Manufacturing Processes Level

The concept of Industry 5.0 consists of three pillars aiming at integrating different objectives into production optimization. However, being in line with this concept is far from straightforward. Herein, training in terms of a Teaching Factory is considered, in order to facilitate integration of relevant concepts by companies in the near future, at process level in particular. To this end, the three pillars are considered as extra requirements of the Teaching Factory procedure. The objective of this Teaching Factory is to drive the investigation of an Industry 5.0 related monitoring system. The learning procedure utilized subtractive manufacturing processes programming and artificial intelligence as technologies, while problem-solving and creativity skills were addressed. In more details, a Teaching Factory operation scheme is utilized to check to what extent the existing procedures and information need to be enriched so that Industry 5.0 is able to be tackled by students. Gaps in the existing educational procedure are identified, given that the design problem definition is adequately vague. A second phase is also exploited to assess the efficiency of the inserted (extra) information. Finally, business benefits from the integration of Industry 5.0 and their relationship with efficiency are discussed.
