Strategies for Circular Economy on Construction Sites Ghana

摘要

Purpose: Adopting the principles of minimizing material waste on a project can demonstrate a firm’s commitment to sustainable construction and environmental management. This paper investigates strategies for construction waste minimization on site. The objectives are to identify strategies for construction minimization on site and to determine the challenges of construction waste minimization on site. Design/ Methodology/approach: Convenient sampling technique was used to select two (2) construction sites in the Cape Coast. 97 respondents were purposively selected comprising engineers, site supervisors, foremen, masons, carpenters, steel benders, plumbers, electricians, and painters and Unskilled Labourers. Questionnaire, interviews and field observation were used to collect the data. Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the data. Findings: Poor site management, lack of experience, inadequate planning and scheduling, mistakes and errors in design and mistakes during construction were identified as the leading which is the waste causation factor on construction sites. Timber waste was the leading material waste on construction sites. Research Limitation/ Implications: The paper focus on waste minimization on construction sites. Practical Implication: these techniques assist contractors in meeting project control goals like cost reduction, efficient work flow, resource planning, and procurement. Social Implication: To prevent the creation of waste due to changes in designs, it is crucial to urge stakeholders to make sure the design is optimised to their satisfaction prior to construction or during the early stages of construction. Originality/ Value: This paper focused on quantifying of construction waste on construction sites.
