Non-recommended Treatment
摘要
This chapter provides an overview of non-recommended treatments for body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), specifically cosmetic treatment. The literature regarding rates of BDD in cosmetic treatment settings is reviewed, along with studies of cosmetic treatments received by persons with a confirmed diagnosis of BDD. While few studies have formally evaluated outcomes of cosmetic treatments among persons with BDD, treatment outcomes appear to be poor, with evidence that BDD symptoms rarely improve and can potentially be exacerbated by cosmetic treatments. The chapter concludes with strategies for clinical management of suspected BDD in cosmetic treatment settings.
