EU Climate Change and Energy Transition Law

Climate change mitigation is possible only if the energy sector undergoes a radical restructuring by eliminating emissions from the combustion of fossil fuels and their replacement by new technologies, such as those using renewable energy sources. Aiming at the Green Energy Transition, the European Union is currently undergoing an unprecedented shift in the scale and ambition of climate policy following the announcement of the “European Green Deal” and the enactment of the “European Climate Law”. The assessment of the EU policies and legislation in the field of energy and climate shows that even under conditions of increased uncertainty, such as those of the severe energy crisis following the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the basic option for the decarbonization of the economy and the pursuit of pre-defined climate targets, in line with the EU’s international commitments, are not negatively affected, since acceleration as regards the achievement of such goals is repeatedly and steadily confirmed.
