Basic Physics and Equipment for Radiofrequency Ablation

Percutaneous thermal ablation is a widely accepted technique to ablate tissues within the body. Various thermal ablation modalities are readily available. For thyroid ablation, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is the most established modality to date. The physics behind RFA technology, tissue hyperthermia and necrosis, and equipment for thyroid RFA is described.
