In 2017, the Board of Trustees, Director Beatrix Ruf and the Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art in Amsterdam were embroiled in controversy due to various forms of alleged conflicts of interest, including a substantial bonus from Ruf’s former employer, art agreements with a member of the Board of Trustees, and reciprocated donations.
