What Is Gained When Justice Moves Online?

摘要

This chapter explores the many benefits of online justice. It argues that moving justice online not only offers the chance to make legal systems more efficient and accessible but also provides the opportunity to reimagine how we facilitate greater engagement between citizens and the state. The chapter illustrates the urgent need to move away from romanticised accounts of the courtroom as a pseudo-sacred space, which socio-legal accounts of courtroom dynamics and legal process have frequently found to be false. While remaining sceptical about the claims of techno-evangelicals, it examines how new technologies can remake the spatial and temporal world of the justice system with a view to greater accessibility and sensitivity to the needs of the disadvantaged.
