Future Research, Planning and Management Directions
摘要
The Abbay basin is known for its diverse agroecology, from drylands to moist highlands, which is prone to climate shocks, exposing the environment and society. Several studies also indicated the variation of available resources due to expansion of agriculture, increase in population size and climate change impacts. This change resulted in transport of sediment to downstream countries. The loss of fertile soil significantly impacts the agricultural productivity of the basin. Hence, proper planning is vital to sustainably utilize the available natural resources. In this regard, the collection and organization of relevant data of the basin is crucial to mitigate the adverse social and natural impacts that may occur in the basin. Geospatial data and technology hugely contribute to the monitoring of the basin resources through indicating resource base sizes and places.
