The Hope-Baring Concern
摘要
This chapter discusses the history of the house of Hope and the history of the house of Baring from their origins to the early nineteenth century. It highlights the challenges that both firms faced in navigating the tumultuous Age of Revolutions, and how they grew closer to weather the storms. The chapter argues that from 1795 to 1823, Hope and Baring should be viewed as one consortium at the pinnacle of a network of associated houses that developed and executed operations collectively.
