No sooner had the Laboratory School been consolidated and widely recognized by the public than a dangerous rival emerged. It was Francis Parker’s Chicago Institute, endowed with one million dollars, which became as School of Education part of the University of Chicago and threatened—with its affiliated practice school—the existence of the Laboratory School. Thanks to the financial support of the Parents Association, this danger was averted for the time being.
