Dewey as Administrator—The Democrat as Autocrat

Although he was habitually a kind and reasonable person, as an administrator, Dewey often made dubious decisions and turned a deaf ear to good advice and valid objections. In particular, he behaved like an autocrat when it came to the management of the School of Education, the merger of the two university elementary schools, and the appointment of his wife as school principal.
