Future Vision—A School Experiment in the Making

In 1894, President Harper entrusted Dewey with the task of establishing the University of Chicago as the leading teacher training institute in the country, and catapulting the Department of Pedagogy to the forefront of educational progress. To this end, Harper was prepared to provide moral support and, to a limited extent, financial support for the Laboratory School that Dewey wanted to found.
