The Influence of a Compulsory Attendance Policy on Students’ Sustainable Education

Student attendance remains a key determining factor in their sustainable education. Implementing the attendance policy in some of the United Arab Emirates (UAE’s) schools and universities is challenging due to a lack of the required information and solutions that can help educational organizations provide the correct guidelines to solve absenteeism problems effectively. This study aims to explore the influence of a compulsory attendance policy on students’ education and how this policy can help enhance the present policy with consideration of the UAE’s cultural identity. This study used a qualitative approach to determine the correct procedures for the examination. The current study aims to demonstrate various perspectives by seeking educators' feedback through face-to-face interviews and focusing on their reactions and perspectives. The analysis of the study was carried out in two phases. First, the study explores the influence of absenteeism on students’ education sustainability and performance, while the second phase is about exploring educators’ and leaders’ beliefs in both schools and universities regarding the importance of applying a compulsory attendance policy. The study’s findings indicated that absenteeism and attendance policies impact students’ educational sustainability and academic performance.
