Engaging Minds—Unlocking Potential with Interactive Technology in Enhancing Students’ Engagement in STEM Education

This chapter explores the transformative role of interactive technology in enhancing students’ engagement and facilitating active learning in STEM disciplines. The chapter offers a comprehensive review of the literature related to the themes of Active Learning, Interactive Technologies, and Educational Engagement. It investigates a framework focused on students’ engagement and learning with technology, such as the Engagement Framework for Technology (Cognitive, Social, and Reflective engagements). This framework highlights the transformative potential of technology in creating immersive learning experiences, fostering active participation, and reinforcing conceptual understanding in STEM fields, in addition to the disadvantages and challenges that arise with interactive technology that are discussed. The integration of interactive technological tools like simulations and virtual labs is discussed in relation to optimizing engagement and learning outcomes. This chapter provides valuable insights and strategies for educators aiming to leverage technology to cultivate enriched, student-centered learning environments in STEM education.
