Prospecting Irishness: “The Irish Diaspora is one of Ireland’s greatest resources”
摘要
Examining the economic, cultural, and symbolic value attributed to the Irish diaspora, this chapter discusses how ‘the Irish diaspora’ is mobilised as a resource by both the Irish state and individuals. It explores the tensions within the commodification of ‘authentic’ expressions of Irishness, as well as the ways in which individuals leverage their Irishness in personal, professional, and political contexts. The chapter critically engages with the idea of diaspora as a resource, highlighting the complexities of belonging, representation, and identity politics.
