Overall Book Conclusions on Renewable Energy Projects for Sustainable Development

Sustainability (Sustainable Development) has permeated the consciousness of business entities, countries, and many regular organisations. While sustainability may be a contested philosophy, it is generally accepted that the idea includes organisational operations that (i) do not destabilise environmental equilibrium, (ii) provide sustainable economic conditions, and (iii) contribute to human (social) progress for all. The main focus of this current book is measuring the effectiveness of renewable energy electrical generators. The premise of adopting carbon-neutral renewable generators is that a reduction/displacement of GHG emissions, mainly CO2, will take place as the connected capacity of renewable generators increase. Less CO2 emissions are considered to contribute to a healthier natural environment. A vast amount of resources has already been committed to help reach a much-promoted, net-zero approach by 2050. However, results provided in the case studies discussed in previous Chapters were found to be discouraging. Implementing renewable generators without energy storage systems reduces the environmental benefits. Similarly, continuous growth economic models are hampering efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, and alternative sustainable economic models need to be urgently considered. In the human realm, there are many cohorts of people who are unrepresented in decision-making processes. Each of the three interconnected sustainability realms has weaknesses associated with them, and because of this, development is not sustainable.
