How Belief Systems Affect Behaviours and Attitudes Towards Accessing Mental Health Care Services in Ghana
摘要
In Ghana, mental health is a pressing public health concern as a substantial portion of the population grapples with mental health issues. The beliefs and cultural practices of Ghanaian communities significantly shape attitudes and behaviours concerning seeking mental health care services. This chapter explores the influence of Ghanaian people’s belief systems on their perspectives of mental health, help-seeking tendencies, and utilization of mental health care services. Additionally, the discussion explores how the three main religions practised in Ghana (Traditional belief systems, Christianity, and Islam) contribute to beliefs about mental health, their impact on health-seeking behaviour, and ultimately affect individuals in need of healthcare.
