Mental Health and Contextual Differences
摘要
Contextual differences exist between mental health in Africa and other parts of the world. Mental disorder, which interferes with an individual’s capacity to function normally and thrive, is clouded in Africa by the complex interplay of historical, socio-cultural, and economic factors. Mental health in Africa continues to be impacted by slavery and colonisation, which laid a foundation for poverty and suffering. The poor economies of countries in Africa have led to a lack of basic needs, including access to health care. In the face of these challenges, resilience, which enables many to navigate psychological problems, should not absolve health stakeholders from their responsibility to provide definitive solutions. It should rather be concurrently harnessed alongside appropriate long-term measures to address mental health problems.
