Improving Treatment Adherence in an Urban Medical Setting: Training of Health Professionals in Motivational Interviewing to Enhance Health Communication
摘要
In the healthcare setting, communication between the service user and the health provider is crucial. However, many factors and situations influence the smooth outcome of this communication process. The outcome of the communication process between the two parties, if effective, can lead to service user satisfaction, less stress, and a perception of high-quality care. It is essential that measures are employed to maintain a positive communication outcome and in turn positive relationship. In the Ghana health system, the need to improve communication and service user/practitioner relationships has been reported in the literature. This chapter discusses a workshop on Motivational Interviewing undertaken in a regional hospital to build the communication capacity of providers. The outcomes and implications of the workshop are discussed.
