Mothers’ Moral Responsibility to Produce Worthy Children Through Socially Valued Dispositions and Behaviours
摘要
I examine the dispositions that mothers nurture to create moral and worthy citizens of value. Mothers are criticised when their children are not ‘good’ which reflects on their mothering. Through music, mothers foster the dispositions that are seen as morally right and valorised within our society. The chapter looks at the ways that mothers control, monitor and survey their children’s behaviour, to ensure their children, and themselves, are seen as legitimate and how they maintain their moral superiority over mothers who are less aspirational.
