The POA Implementation
摘要
This chapter explores the implementation of the Production-Oriented Approach (POA) in China’s General English Course (GEC). It begins with an overview of the GEC and the commonly used textbooks, setting the stage for understanding the integration of the POA into this educational landscape. The chapter then focuses on the iEnglish textbook series, the first set of English textbooks designed around the POA principles and methodology. Through a detailed examination of these textbooks, the chapter highlights the innovative use of the POA to enhance English teaching, showing the methodological differences that distinguish iEnglish from other materials. The chapter further demonstrates how a single lesson can be structured according to the POA framework. By breaking down a unit from the iEnglish series, specifically the “Philosophy and Thought” unit in the second volume, it illustrates how various parts and activities are cohesively integrated to promote improved language learning and production. Practical examples of lessons are analysed to show the real-world application of the POA elements in the classroom. Overall, this chapter provides a comprehensive understanding of how the POA is applied in the context of China’s GEC, emphasising its transformative potential in language education. The insights gained underline the effectiveness of the POA in fostering a more interactive and productive learning environment.
