Assessing Diagnostic Tests and Screening Tools

  • Alan McLintic,

摘要

This chapter outlines key medical statistics used to assess the utility of tests which detect disease or determine the risk of an event occurring. Diagnostic or screening tests are generally compared with a gold standard that is assumed to have a superior predictive ability in determining the outcome of interest. These statistics allow for conclusions to be reached about the suitability of a new or established test to be used as a replacement for the gold standard in a population of interest.
