Respiratory: Closing Volume and Anatomical Dead Space

Measurement of closing volume and anatomical dead space is an interesting interplay between dynamic respiratory mechanics and applied physiology. Whilst not commonly measured, this topic is commonly examined. An understanding of the concepts occurring will provide a deeper appreciation of the complexities of regional ventilation and the effect of closing volume on lung mechanics.
