Nabisco had a factory in Palmira, outside of Cali, Colombia. My father ran the company there and his office was at the factory. It was not uncommon for the delivery trucks to have to wait for the peacocks who roamed the campus to get out of the way after fanning their train feathers before deliveries could begin. “Such is life in the tropics,” he would say. My father was from Westbrook, Maine, and had attended Colby College with help from the G.I. Bill before working for U.S. companies overseas all his life.
